QUITO CITY EXPLORER (Quito at night) 3-hour Tour

We begin in the northern part of the city with a tour along the commercial areas, where most of the hotels are located. Then we head to the historic center to see the spectacle of the illuminated churches, which is a main tourist attraction offering some unique landscapes of the city.

The tour continued to the Mirador del Penecillo (entrance included), which is recognized for its beauty and see a view of the colonial and modern Quito. During the tour the guide will speak of the culinary diversity of the city and each passenger will enjoy a little taste of this. At the end of the tour, passengers have an option to choose from one of the recommended restaurants, or you can return to the hotel.
Transportation is by the trolley bus, which is a replica of the trams that operated during the last century.

Monday to Saturday

All aboard the original trolley bus towards the historic center, where we make our first stop at the Mercado San Francisco, one of the oldest markets in the city, and still holds the charm and tradition of the typical markets handed down from generation to generation. Here you will see a wide variety of Andean fruits, freshly squeezed as well as herbal medicines.
Next we visit the museum Casa del Alabado (admission is included), dedicated to Pre-Columbian Art and Ecuadorian archeology. We continue by walking towards La Compañia Church (admission included), recognized for its adornments and golden altars. We then reach the Plaza Grande, also known as Independence Square, surrounded by important traditional buildings of the city such as the Archbishop’s Palace, where we will enjoy a typical Ecuadorian homemade lunch and a dessert from the oldest cafe in the city “Heladeria San Agustin.”

After lunch we walk towards the traditional Calle La Ronda to tour houses full of art, culture and handicraft demonstrations and see the various workshops of the “Manos a la Ronda Project”. This project is honoring and saving the traditional craftsmanship of jewelry, ironwork, inlaid, headwear, tin among other crafts. In this neighborhood we will see where characters recreate the colonial city and learn the traditional game of langsyne.

After the tour, those who wish can stay in the historic center or we will compliment this local experience, by using public transportation to move north of the city.

The route begins in the northern part of the city in the commercial district of banks and hotels in modern Quito. Here we visit the Plaza Foch, known as “Zona Rosa”, where you can explore, feel and taste a world of flavors and sensations of artisan chocolate, cocoa Fine Aroma, accompanied by a cup of hot chocolate. Following this we move to the Casa Museo Guayasamin, Ecuador’s most important artist of the modern era, and see the artistic heritage that this artist bestowed on this country. To end this evening, we will visit the traditional and historic neighborhood of Guápulo, where we will walk its quaint cobbled streets, and overlook the valleys that surround the city. In the bohemian-style cafes that characterize this picturesque area, you can taste a traditional canelazo quiteño. From here we can admire the church of Guápulo and old monastery. At the end you can either return to the hotel, or stay in an area with many fine restaurants or take our night tour (Wed to Sat).

Journey through the historic center of Quito on a guided bike tour. Cycling through the streets and plazas at a leisurely pace, passing houses and churches full of history, while enjoying the friendliness and warmth of the people. Bike rental included.

Depart from Quito via the Pan-American Highway north to Cayambe, where passengers can taste the delicious “Bizcochos de Cayambe,” a type of cracker or bread baked in a clay oven (greatly paired with local cheese or caramel sauce). Afterwards we will make a brief stop at “Miralago”, to view the lake, Lago San Pablo. The tour then continues to Otavalo, where the native Otavaleños set up a market in which bartering takes place. The market hosts a variety of different handcrafted items.

At this point passengers may choose to stay in Otavalo or travel further to visit the leather shops of Cotacachi. On the way to Cotacachi, we will visit a traditional workshop of Andean instruments called “Ñanda Mañachi” located in Peguche. Then we reach Llumen, the land of Shamans and healers, we we can witness an ancestral indigenous ritual by a Shaman.
In Cotachaci there will be enough time to visit the village, the shops of leather goods and free time for lunch. Return to Quito picking up any passengers who decided to stay in Otavalo (pickup spot determined by Gray Line Guide). Note: The bus will only wait for 10 minutes in Otavalo before returning to Quito.

Departure by bus through the Pan-American Highway admiring the diverse ecosystems and the majesty of the Andes on route. We will stop at the Saquisili market (only on Thursdays), where locals native to the area sell their products. We continue on to the Cotopaxi National Park, the highest active volcano in the world at 5,897 meters above sea level, arriving at the foot of the impressive volcano. We will visit the Museum Park, the Limpiopungo Lagoon and then we will hike to the forest of chuquirahuas to 4200 meters, weather permitting. Free time for lunch in a local hacienda to either horse ride or walk the many pathways, In the afternoon we will visit one of the best plantations recognized globally for its fine flowers and roses.
Not included: Entrance to Cotopaxi National Park ($10), and lunch
