Visit this beautiful and productive valley located 33 kilometers south west of Cuenca, where the weather is warmer with average temperatures of 19 °C (66°F). The sightseeing tour features a 90-minute hike to view the Waterfall of Girón (70m). The native vegetation is full of several species of orchids, bromeliads and ferns, which provides an ideal scenario for birdwatching.
8:00 am pick up at your hotel. From Cuenca we take the highway towards the south, through the most important agricultural and cattle raising areas on the city’s outskirts. The 30-minute drive takes us to the small town of Girón, from here we trek about one hour towards the Chorro de Girón (the waterfalls).
The guide will point out the native vegetation, which is full of different species of orchids, bromeliads and ferns, and creates an ideal scene for birdwatching. Once we reach the waterfalls, its time to rest, relax or swim. This valley is much warmer than Cuenca, and you may see animals and vegetation like the raw sugar cane that is used in the preparation of mapanagua and guarapo, which is a traditional drink of the area. Afterwards, we visit a small museum called “Casa de los Tratados” (The House of Treaties) a defense museum and historical monument to the nation.
